Background information

What does the tool do?

The BNI tool measures and compares the expectations and experiences that you and your counterpart have during the collaborative activities in which you are involved. The basis on which the expectations and experiences are measured are the result of thorough preliminary research. They present a complete analysis of the contributing factors that determine the success of the interaction between NGOs and business companies. The expectations will be measured beforehand and the experiences during or after the process. In this way you can obtain a clear idea of the expectations of your counterpart and of the bottlenecks that may occur during the process of interaction, because expectations differ. After filling in the questionnaire you will receive a ”Bottleneck Analysis” e-mail of any expectations or experiences that differ significantly. With this report, it is easy to prepare a structured agenda for dialogue with your counterpart.

How does the BNI-tool work?

By clicking on the BNI-tool logo, (on the left side of this page) you enter the registration page. The questions posed will guide you through this page. It is important to keep a record of the data you filled in, in order to be able to use the BNI-tool again to evaluate the interaction process. It is also important to provide your counterpart with the account name and password, so that his results can be matched with yours. This is the only way to generate a “Bottleneck Analysis” in which your results are compared with those of your counterpart. If you have used the tool a report is automatically generated. This report contains the “Bottleneck Analysis” and can be viewed online and later sent by e-mail. If your counterpart has not yet filled in the questionnaire you will initially receive a benchmark report. When your counterpart has filled in the questionnaire the results will be matched and you will receive a notification to view the report online.

Papers

On the basis of the completed questionnaires the researchers involved will carry out an annual analysis. This analysis will be focused in particular on the significant differences and similarities between the NGO and business expectations. The questionnaires will be treated in strict confidence.

The following papers provide more detailed information about the theoretical and conceptual background of the BNI tool.
